When I was in aesthetics school, one of the first skin care brands I learned about was SkinCeuticals. I remember being totally fascinated by their antioxidant research and the fact that they were one of the first companies to partner with physicians to offer skin care products in their offices.
It is a dream come true to now find myself working for SkinCeuticals and educating others on what makes this medical skin care brand truly exceptional. It's not about chasing the latest fads but truly transforming your skin with science-backed formulas. Read on to learn about SkinCeuticals origin story, the philosophy behind our formulas and the continued commitment to innovation that has made us the #1 medical skin care brand for the sixth year in a row.
SkinCeuticals was created in 1997 in the United States and emerged from the groundbreaking antioxidant research spearheaded by our founding scientist, Dr. Sheldon Pinnell. Dr. Pinnell was a professor, renowned dermatologist and skin cancer researcher whose pivotal findings on antioxidants lead to the first ever vitamin C patent. This was a breakthrough discovery and the creation of an entirely new skin care category.
The patent, known today as the Duke Antioxidant patent, defines the precise parameters for effective vitamin C absorption: a low pH (2-3.5), a concentration between 10-20%, and the use of pure L-ascorbic acid. All SkinCeuticals vitamin C antioxidant serums are formulated following this patent and are clinically proven to penetrate skin to provide superior antioxidant protection while improving visible skin concerns.
Dr. Pinnell dedicated forty years to skin research, published over 200 scientific articles, held ten patents and received more than twelve prestigious awards and accolades throughout his lifetime. Although he passed away in 2013, his work continues to inspire our research and promote our mission, which is to develop advanced skin care solutions backed by science.
The SkinCeuticals product philosophy is centered around three main pillars: prevent future damage, correct visible concerns and protect healthy skin. We believe an effective skin care regimen must contain these three fundamental elements, be essential to skin’s transformation and health and can be further customized and tailored for every unique skin need.
Prevent: SkinCeuticals PREVENT formulas are a range of antioxidant products clinically proven to neutralize damaging free radicals and target different skin types and concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration and oiliness.
Correct: SkinCeuticals CORRECT products use a combination of anti-aging, clarifying, moisturizing or exfoliating ingredients to address a wide array of skin concerns, including the appearance of wrinkles, discoloration, blemishes and more.
Protect: SkinCeuticals PROTECT products include broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreens that are suitable for all skin types, daily use and prolonged sun exposure.
If you are new to SkinCeuticals and are looking to build an effective regimen, start by choosing one product from each category, keeping in mind your skin type and current skin concerns. You can always add additional SkinCeuticals products to address more than one concern and support your skin as you move through the aging process.
