Tumescent liposuction and SmartLipo are two of the most effective forms of liposuction. Learn more about these innovative procedures.
Tumescent liposuction is the most respected method of liposuction that there is. Why is that and how is it different from SmartLipo?
Tumescent liposuction and SmartLipo are very similar but they are not exactly the same thing. In my practice, I actually do both of them, tumescent liposuction and SmartLipo, which is liposuction with a laser.
Tumescent liposuction is a method of liposuction that was invented by a dermatologist, Dr. Jeffrey Klein, back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This involves the use of very large amounts of anesthetic that are injected in very carefully under the skin to mess or fatten up the skin so that they can then be removed with a teeny little cannula and taken off fat that is unwanted in areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, or chin. With this method of liposuction, there is no need for general anesthesia, so it’s much safer and quicker and has much less bruising or other problems after the procedure.
Now, SmartLipo is the laser that is accompanying tumescent liposuction. So, when we do tumescent liposuction, we also use a laser before the procedure to break down some of the fat so it is much easier to remove the fat and it achieves a much nicer look with a much smoother and svelte appearance.
With both of these methods together, it ends up with much better results and people end up being much happier. I think that you can do many of these procedures alone, but together, tumescent liposuction and SmartLipo make a very nice combination.
