I don't get the hype

I really tried to love this because ALL the reviews are amazing, but I used it after getting a V Beam laser on my face, and I felt like it made me super oily. Maybe I expected too much? I saw a lot of reviews of people using it post-treatment, so I thought it might help with redness, sensitivity, calming, etc., and it didn't do anything different/more than my usual lotion. I guess it's hydrating? But no more than any other lotion.

Soothing on irritated skin

I used this on my face for a few nights after overdoing it a bit with glycolic acid and it worked wonders. It feels thick going on, but my skin felt very soft and hydrated in the morning. I'm very fair and only noticed a slight white cast after applying. I don't think I'd wear this in the daytime under makeup and sunscreen. Seems too thick/pasty for that.

Use Post Procedure

This is a thick, occlusive white balm. It has zinc oxide in it. I've used it post-procedure (lasers/peels). It is simple and made for a specific purpose. I wouldn't recommend using it if you have acne or as a day-to-day product under SPF but it is good as a moisturizing treatment when needed.

Excellent for Perioral Deematitis

I started getting perioral dermatitis around my mouth, a skin irritation that looks like acne but is actually a disruption of the skin’s acid barrier. It wasn’t until I tried Avene Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream that I was able to clear it up! The cream is gentle and healing, and I’ve continued to use it as my daily moisturizer. If I use anything harsh on my face like an acid peel or tea tree oil, the Perioral Dermatitis will flare up again, so I generally avoid those things and always come back to my Avene cream to get my skin happy again. I definitely recommend it for sensitive skin issues of any kind!

As with most Avene products, I do recommend Cicalfate. I'm currently using it on a skin cancer scar to see if it will help smooth out the scar. It also helps improve your skin's moisture barrier. It's a good cream to have around for things like this. It is a very thick, soothing cream.
