The product will make your skin dry, so I highly recommend using a moisturizer on top of the serum. I didn't see any real brightening and have more luck with a few drops of organic rosehip oil which gives the skin an instant glow under moisturizer. Perhaps, it works better on more chronic conditions or for lighter complexions.
