Unlike many acne cleansers, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Gel Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser is soap-free so it will not dry out the complexion or strip skin of its natural moisture. This product is also paraben-free, alcohol-free and oil-free so it is ideal for most skin types, especially oily. The advanced formula contains zinc to purify skin of excess oil and to help reduce inflammation. The foaming formula easily cleanses the complexion without the need for scrubbing and rubbing. Cleanse with this acne skin care product for clear pores and a healthy complexion.
Use as a daily, facial cleanser for oily skin. Cleanse morning and/or in the evening. Gentle enough for everyday use. Wet face with lukewarm water and apply small amount of gel, massaging the skin gently to form a rich lather. Leave on for a few moments and rinse thoroughly with water.

But I have found that many more gentle cleansers still leave makeup and/or dirt (using some toner on a cotton ball after washing still showed stuff)--and this at least cleans very very well.
