Check out how we’re bringing our locks into the new season with this finger wave curls tutorial.
Evy, a licensed hairstylist, shows how to finger wave your hair with the lovely Meg, our Assistant Events Producer. This easy style is a great way to refresh your look in time for fall!
This style and most styles requiring hair curling will work best on second-day hair. If your hair isn't recently washed (more than 24 hours ago), prime your locks with IGK Call Time Styling Primer. This smoothing primer provides lightweight hydration and detangles strands, creating the perfect base for your style. If you are making a finger wave on freshly-shampooed strands, prep your dried hair with a few sprays of dry shampoo like Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. This will add a little grit and lift to hair to help the style stay in place. Then, pick or comb through to spread the product evenly from root to tips.
Next, section hair into three or four two- to three-inch sections. Prime your strands with a heat protection spray like Pureology Colour Fanatic Hair Treatment Spray. This multi-tasking spray protects hair against heat damage while adding shine. Then, take a flat iron like the CHI AIR EXPERT Classic Tourmaline Ceramic Hairstyling Iron 1”. Choose a small section of hair (about an inch), place it into the flat iron and flip the iron 180 degrees while pulling down. A true wave is a curl right in the middle of the hair strand, so don’t worry about the ends! Afterwards, activate the curl with a gentle twist it in the same direction you curled.
Finally, add texture to the look with a spray like IGK Beach Club Texture Spray. This salt-free spray gives hair volume and lightweight hold to keep strands in place. Then, finish the look with a finishing paste like the Kenra Professional Platinum Whipped Taffy 20. This unique soufflé will help place curls together to set the look in place for all day wear.
