I started with the Obagi 0.5 Retinol and have since worked my way up to the 1.0. I really like this retinol. It is simple without a lot of added other stuff. No scent and doesn't cause redness or drying.

I have used retinol for many years (turning 40 next year)- both prescription and medical grade versions such as Skinmedica. I was having issues with breakouts a few years ago and discovered the website cosdna which rates how acnegenic or irritating products can be. I realized that my old retinol could have been causing acne. I went on a deep dive to find an effective retinol that would be powerful, but not cause me to breakout. I was so happy to find Obagi- it scored really well on cosdna. After tweaking a few other products, I have not dealt with breakouts since. I love that this retinol is effective and doesn't cause me to break out.

My dermatologist advised I use a retinol and had me start on .5 and then move to 1.0 after I adjusted. I had purchased Obagi products before and knew they were quality products so I bought the 1.0 Retinol. It took some adjusting to the higher strength but I weaned myself in slowly and just as my doctor said, the blemishes stopped. Bonus, my pores look smaller and my skin is softer. You MUST wear sunscreen when using retinols. Even if you don’t have blemishes, your skin will benefit from using retinols, just go slow and listen to your skin.
