Just what my skin needed
Love it! Used tretinoin .5% off and on for many years - originally prescribed for skin congestion. The Skinceuticals Retinol 1% has taken years off my face - I am 40 years old. I cautiously used a VERY small amount every other day for 8 days (4 applications) and saw fantastic results - smoother skin, "dullness" vanished, and unevenness in my skin tone was drastically improved. I wouldnt say it made my pores smaller, per se, but certainly less obvious because of the general, overall improvement. I used my Clarisonic each day to help exfoliate off the flaking skin. Peeling/flaking is good! Its how you reveal the fresh skin. I can only imagine, however, that if you globbed this on your face, youd tear it up! Tread carefully but dont miss out!

good retinol product at good price
While not an inexpensive item, this delivers a good amount of retinol at a competitive price. Many retinol creams are priced the same or higher and actually have less active ingredient than this product. If you are a regular retinol user, this will not disappoint. If you are new to retinol, you may want to try a milder formula.

Effective and non-irritating
I "graduated" to the 1.0 after going through a tube of the 0.5. I started using these products after getting away from retionoids due to the hassle-factor of needing a prescription. I alternate this every other night with the Obagi C-peptide complex serum and my skin is not irritated or dried out with this combination. I think the overall texture and appearance of my skin is improved. It seems to keep my skin glowing and staves off new fine lines (Im 43).

Really Works!
This retinol is as good as prescription retinol. I used SkinCeuticals a few years ago and liked it a lot but stopped using it due to cost plus my skin was in pretty good condition. Fast forward about 6 years or so and at 53 I am showing signs of wear, even though I have been using high end quality products. As I work in the medical field I wanted products with scientific data behind them that prove they benefit the skin. This range works and the longer use use it the better your skin will look. I would suggest starting with the 0.5 retinol before the 1.0 as this strength will make you peel. As others suggest too, start with every 3 nights and build up as you tolerate. I have found using my Clarisonic helps with the peeling. The B5 product also helps if you apply it after the retinol, it adds moisture.

a gentle retinoid
I have used a few different retinoid products on and off for several years. The lack of consistency is because the harshness on my skin or the severe peeling thereafter. Granted, peeling is the expected result of these products. But some had me peel much more than others, leaving my skin even more sensitive than initially. And having to deal with the scaling skin with tons of moisturizer and adding on top a thicker layer of makeup to camouflage the redness is not acceptable to me. SkinCeuticals Retinol 1.0 is very gentle on my skin. There is no irritation. As for peeling, it is does not make my skin look as if I scrubbed with a cheese grater. The peeling is gradual and subtle. This may not be desired effect some people would like, they perhaps wanting a drastic peel from the get go. But I cannot have my skin raw and tender like other retinoids leave my skin. I plan on continuing using this product 2-3x a week to help with skin turn around and pore minimizing. And with that, I would recommend this for those looking for a retinoid cream without the harsh after effects.

I have had three professional chemical peels and now use this product to treat portions of the stubborn dermal melasma that is not responsive to the peels. I can't say enough about the good results from the addition of this product to my routine. I use it 3x for one week, then I stop for the next week (during peeling process) and use a potent treatment like Phloretin CF, then I use the Retinol again 3x per week, etc. This retinol is way better than the tretinoin cream prescribed by my Dr. which did less for my skin and cost way more out of pocket. This product has lasted a long time as I don't need much product to achieve decent results. Definitely will re-order!

Graduated from .5 to 1.0
Have not been using it long enough to become adjusted to it, but the .5 % which I used for several months was wonderful and surprisingly helped with my rosacea. Thats the reason I upped my dose to 1% because I am looking to get below the level where the inflammation/infection is that is causing my rosacea. My friend who visited recently said she saw a real difference.

It took a few months for me to work up to the 1.0 % but it has made such a difference in my skin! I get compliments all the time and people ask if I'm wearing makeup.. I get an almost matte look. Not dry, just smooth. And I never wear foundation. I only wear mascara and lipstick. I'm almost 43 and my skin looks clear and smooth and no new lines have formed. I admit I do have a few lines from year in the sun that have not disappeared, but they also have not gotten any worse. I've been using this for a little over a year. I noticed superficial peeling of my skin following 2 uses of this product.This really made my makeup look bad for 2 days. I initially used it 2x per week & have decreased use to 1x per wk. Th peeling has halted. I use a clarisonic cleansing brush, & this helped to remove the peeling skin quicker. I had no redness. I do see increased clarity & smoothness in my skin with use of this in conjunction with the CE Ferulic that I beagn to use simutaneously.
