Too early to assess
I am basing the star rating on past experience with all the other Skinceuticals products that I have used. This isn't true for several other premium skin care brands, which are pricey, but don't provide any discernable benefits. I can say that this retinol product isn't irritating or unpleasant scented. I am anticipating favorable results at about the 3 month point.

Using Retinol 1.0 night cream has drastically kicked up the cell turnover on my face. Complexion is much brighter, dark spots are fading quickly and since I gradually moved from Retinol 0.5 to 1.0 after 2 years there has been no irritation. Wonderful product, highly recommended.

More pros than cons
Of all the Retinol and Tretinoin I've used so far, this is the mildest and yet effective product. It does not make my skin break out, not over drying, no redness and only very little to no peeling. However, one good tip that everyone should know when using Retinol/Tretinoin products is that the cleansed face must be COMPLETELY dry (including hands) before applying it. It is absolutely fine to use other serums/products prior to applying Retinol/Tretinoin but again, face and hands MUST be dry otherwise the skin may/will turn red resulting in redness and eventually peeling. Another important note is that when Retinol/Tretinoin is used, SPF50 is mandatory during the day. Regardless whether R/T is used, it is highly recommended to always apply SPF50 at least 15-20 minutes before leaving home. For double protection, wear a hat/cap and sunglasses (do not have to be expensive but certainly not recommending $20/pair). Remember to start from the lowest strength and work your way up to 1.0 as our skin needs time to get accustomed to changes. I usually apply 3 to 4x a week but try to avoid over exfoliating which will also sensitize the skin even more. Drink lots of water, more fruits and vegetables, have enough rest, work out regularly, less sugary/alcoholic beverages, not to exert too much stress on ourselves, avoid direct sunlight exposures (especially between 10am and 3pm) and might want to consider taking vitamin A, B complex, biotin, C and E, etc. (consult with your doctor first) and do not overdo it by thinking that applying more R/T and other products and/or consuming higher doses of vitamins are actually good. Finally! I have been waiting to get started with Skinceuticals 1.0. I warmed up with the 0.5 formula as was recommended, and I am very pleased with the 1.0. I have been used SkinCeuticals retinol 1.0 for over a year. My skin looks brighter, firmer and sun spots disappeared. You need to be patience in the first 3 months, there will be dryness, and redness, you need to apply a lot of moisturizer and pause retinol for 1 or 2 days then continue every other day. You will appreciate how beautiful the skin looks after 3 months
