I have used several different retinol products, some of which seemed to do nothing. This one actually works, though at first I did have some sensitivity (I had been using a different product which said it contained 1 percent retinol, but I wonder). This did cause initial dryness and itchiness, but within a week of using every other day I was able to tolerate using it every night. I’ve noticed lightening of dark spots and a refining of pores. I’ve used other SkinMedica products but this is the first of their retinol I’ve used. It really does pay to use medical grade products.

Rough start
I decided to upgrade from .25 to the .5 SkinMedica Retinol and planned to start with twice a week as indicated. I had been using the .25 three times per week with little to no flaking. My first time using the Retinol .5 I used too much product since one pump didn't seem sufficient to cover my face. Live and learn! I had quite a bit of peeling and flaking from that first use as well as stinging when I applied other products for several days. I waited another week and used just the one pump of product which I later saw was recommended. (It still doesn't seem like enough to cover my face.) I had a little flaking but very mild. After 3 weeks I have just started using it twice per week and I do see a difference in my skin. I will continue to order this and other SkinMedica products.
