Achieve an even, streak-free tan with these tips on how to apply a sunless tanner.
Hi, I’m Shamina with LovelySkin.com. Using self-tanners may be the healthier option for creating a sun-kissed glow, but it isn’t always the easiest. That’s where I come in! Follow this video to learn how to apply self-tanners to get a nice even glow.
Do some research on sunless tanners to find the one that best suits your skin tone and needs. If you have extremely fair skin, it’s best to use gradual tanning lotion. For those looking to create an instant glow, towelettes and sprays are great options.
In order to achieve a natural layer of color, it’s best to exfoliate your skin one day before applying the product. Prepare your skin by applying a physical scrub in circular motions.
Apply towelettes in circular motions beginning with the arms, legs, stomach and back before moving to the face, neck, chest, back of hands and feet.
Hold sprays about 10 inches from your skin as you start with your arms and move down your body.
Lotions should be applied with uniform swipes beginning at the feet and working your way up.
After you’ve applied your self-tanner, make sure to wash your hands to avoid orange palms. You can also wear latex gloves to avoid this issue.
It’s important to follow all directions on your sunless tanning product to avoid streaking or an uneven application.
If you see streaks, you can use an exfoliator or a cotton ball with nail polish remover or an alcohol-based toner to lighten mistakes.
To maintain your tan, reapply self-tanning lotion every other day and towelettes once a week. To find the right formula for your needs, visit LovelySkin.com/SunlessTanners.
